Is my basement dry enough to finish?
We check for water stains, efflorescence, musty smells, cracks and grading or downspout problems. In Northwest Ohio's clay soils, a basement that looks dry in fall can seep in spring. If there is any sign of water entry, we recommend addressing it before finishing so the investment is protected.
Do I need a permit to finish my basement?
In most communities, including Toledo and Oregon, finishing a basement with new framing, electrical, plumbing or HVAC requires permits and inspections. We handle the permit process and schedule inspections, and we design bedrooms with egress windows to meet code requirements.
What flooring works best in a basement?
Luxury vinyl plank and porcelain tile are popular because they tolerate moisture well. Carpet can work with the right pad over a dry slab, but it is less forgiving if water gets in. Solid hardwood is generally not recommended below grade because it reacts to humidity.
