Do I need a permit for a fence in Oregon or Toledo?
Many municipalities in the Oregon and Toledo area require a permit or zoning approval for fences, with rules on height, setbacks and which side faces out. HOAs often add their own requirements. We check the rules for your address and handle permit applications where they apply.
How deep do you set fence posts?
Post depth depends on fence height, material and local code, but posts are set deep enough in concrete to resist frost heave in our clay soils. Gate posts are set deeper and heavier because they carry more load. Proper depth is the key to a fence that stays straight.
Vinyl or wood: which fence lasts longer?
Vinyl typically lasts longer with less maintenance because it does not rot, warp or need staining. Wood costs less initially and has a natural look but requires periodic sealing and occasional board replacement. Cedar holds up better than standard pressure-treated pine.
Who is responsible for knowing where my property line is?
The homeowner is responsible for property line location. We work from your survey or plat and visible property pins. If the line is unclear, we recommend hiring a surveyor before installation to avoid disputes with neighbors. Setting the fence slightly inside the line is also a common way to leave room for maintenance.
