Cabinet painting done right is a process, not a weekend project. Doors and drawers are removed, cleaned, degreased, sanded and primed with a bonding primer before a hard, cabinet-grade topcoat is applied. Refacing goes further: new doors and drawer fronts are installed, and the exposed face frames and end panels are covered with matching veneer or new skins. Either way, we add new hinges, soft-close hardware and pulls, so the kitchen feels new every time you open a drawer.

Your existing doors and boxes are prepped and refinished with a durable enamel or conversion-style coating. It works best on solid wood doors in a style you still like.
Full refacing
New doors and drawer fronts are installed and the frames are covered to match. This changes the door style completely without replacing the boxes.
Refacing with added features
Combine refacing with a new pantry cabinet, trash pull-out, crown molding or roll-out shelves to improve function as well as looks.
Two-tone finishes
Paint lower cabinets or an island in a darker color while keeping uppers lighter. It is a popular way to add contrast and hide wear on base cabinets.

Kitchens across Oregon, Toledo and Northwood are full of solid oak cabinetry from the 1980s and 1990s. The boxes are often well built, but the orange-toned finish looks dated. Is refacing or painting better than replacing cabinets?
It depends on the cabinet boxes and layout. If the boxes are solid and you like where everything is, refacing or painting can transform the kitchen at a lower cost and with less disruption. If boxes are water-damaged, particleboard is swelling or the layout does not work, replacement is usually the better investment.
How long does painted cabinetry last?
Properly prepped and finished cabinets hold up well for many years. The keys are thorough degreasing, sanding, a bonding primer and a hard cabinet-grade topcoat. Brush-and-roll latex wall paint is the main reason painted cabinets chip, and it is not what we use.
Can oak cabinets be painted without the grain showing?
Oak has open grain that can telegraph through paint. If you want a smooth finish, we can apply a grain filler before priming. If you do not mind some texture, many homeowners like the subtle grain. We will show you samples so you can decide before we start.
Do you paint and reface cabinets outside of Toledo?
Yes. We work throughout Northwest Ohio, including Oregon, Perrysburg, Maumee, Sylvania, Rossford, Genoa, Port Clinton and Bowling Green. Doors and drawer fronts can often be finished off-site to reduce the time your kitchen is disrupted, then reinstalled and adjusted once the coating has fully cured.
