The soffit and fascia along your roof edge do more than finish off the eaves. Fascia boards carry the weight of your gutters and seal the edge of the roof deck, while soffits feed fresh air into the attic and keep birds, squirrels and insects out. When these parts rot, sag or fall apart, you can end up with leaks, pest problems and an attic that overheats in summer and forms ice dams in winter. We remove damaged material, check rafter tails and sub-fascia for rot, and rebuild the framing where needed before installing new boards. From there you can choose to paint new wood, wrap it in custom-bent aluminum, or install composite or PVC trim that will not rot. Soffits are typically replaced with vented vinyl or aluminum panels to improve attic airflow. If your gutters are coming off anyway, we coordinate their removal and reinstallation so the whole roof edge is finished cleanly.

Eaves on Northwest Ohio homes see constant moisture. Overflowing gutters during spring downpours soak the fascia, ice dams hold water against the roof edge for weeks in winter, and humid summers keep wood from drying out. Many older homes in Toledo, East Toledo and Oregon still have original wood fascia and solid soffits with little or no ventilation, which contributes to hot attics and ice dams. Soffit & Fascia Repair FAQs
What is the difference between soffit and fascia?
Fascia is the vertical board along the edge of the roof where gutters attach. Soffit is the horizontal underside of the overhang between the fascia and the house wall. Fascia protects the roof edge from water, while soffit provides attic ventilation and closes the eaves to pests.
Can you just wrap my rotted fascia in aluminum?
We do not recommend wrapping over rot. Covering soft wood hides the problem and it keeps deteriorating underneath, eventually loosening gutters. We replace rotted sections first, then wrap sound wood in aluminum so the finished edge is both durable and low maintenance.
Will vented soffit help with ice dams?
It can help significantly. Ice dams form when warm attic air melts snow on the roof. Vented soffits paired with ridge or roof vents keep the roof deck colder and more even in temperature. Many older Toledo homes have little soffit intake, so adding it is often a worthwhile improvement.
Do you repair soffit damaged by animals?
Yes. We replace chewed or broken panels, repair framing, and close the gaps animals used to get in. If animals are still living in the attic, we recommend having a wildlife removal service handle them first so they are not sealed inside.
